The Criterion Hotel is a 1936 Inter-War Art Deco hotel, corner of Park and Streets. This beautiful articulated face brick faade has been carrying on from the original name of Criterion Theatre which was the original business that occupied the current site. The loadbearing and terracotta tiles with timber windows make for a stunning faade. It is compared to the Edinburgh Castle Hotel down the corner of Pitt and Bathurst Streets for its long existence in the area carrying the same name all these years. Love walking past here and admiring its beautiful faades especially knowing its history. It still operates today as hotel providing budget accommodation as well as a licensed pub. Worth a peek.

Recently visited the Criterion Hotel for food and drinks and was pleasantly surprised. I had the rump steak and it was perfectly cooked. Was delighted to see they had Magners cider and Guinness, which was a great pint. Staff were great and very friendly. I will definitely be back again.

HIGHLY RECOMMENDED. A great location in the Sydney CBD. The staff were very friendly and helpful. They had a good selection of beers on tap and the meals were very reasonably priced and delicious for 'pub food'. I will be going back.

$5.50 for a small soda with lime!?! That's Highway robbery! Asked for a medium rare steak and it was extremely well done. Mushroom sauce was clearly made from powder. Yuck.

I have been to this pub a few times just out of convenience only, even from the first visit the staff were rude, the beer is overpriced, food subpar at best and the fact that there is no smoking/vaping area except for the pokies area is perfect evidence of how shameless this pub is in providing a poor standard of literally everything! While trying to take the maximum from every patron.. Do NOT waste your time here! I would give zero stars but I can't unfortunately

The service is very useful and friendly. I would recommend to be there between 1- 4 days as children are not allowed downstairs ( the pub )

Good atmosphere. Downstairs is a good retreat to chat. Food was above expectations, Parmigiana 8+, Rump cooked as ordered and VG - highly recommended. Would definitely come back when we leave N.E Victoria.
