Wow this once beautifully run pub has gone backwards. Only a specials board, no menu and hopefully you like meat because that's almost all that's on offer. Had salad and chips (not on the menu, the only thing for vegans), chips were cold and the salad was made of onion, 2 types of cabbage and beetroot. Very disappointing compared to previous dining here.

I visit Macksville twice a year and look forward in visiting the Star Hotel for the amazing food and atmosphere. I have never seen anything go down faster than a meteorite. Was looking forward to a nice meal and conversation with friends and family. Food was so dissapointing. Why bother with a special board when there's nothing special to offer except for the expensive price. Oh, don't forget to bring your ear plug unless you like listening to very very loud awful music. Nice to see the manager having a great time dancing to Nutbush city Limit. Not worth the visit, maybe try The Macksville Hotel or Rusty pizza. Hey Star Hotel are you deliberately trying to run the place down.

From my phone call to book to the beautiful morning view over the river, our overnight stay was perfect for us. Lylah was so helpful in taking our booking and when we arrived, the barman (Clint?) made us feel very welcome. At Lylah's suggest we booked a room with verandah access and were treated to a wonderful view for sunset and sunrise. We had a great night's sleep.

Found a dirty pair of socks in bedside drawer. Place needs a really good clean both inside & out & a decent coat of paint.

I was so looking forward to having lunch , but no smiles, dirty cutlery, steak was well done when requested rare to medium, girl who took orders hated being there, , warm wine. This cost me $70. You are better off going to bakery..

Great place to hangout with friends and great food. The view is lovely overlooking the water and Macksville bridge which is lit up colourfully with lights.

One of the staff thought to take it upon themselves to call me a "knob" on a private message when I expressed my concern for a staff member with a long history of very sub standard kitchen practices, witnessed by myself and the board of this persons former employer. So I'm sorry to say after 20 years of going there for all sorts of different occasions, I wont be going back there. I'm hearing that I'm not alone in my decision to not go back.

It took more than 1.5 hours after ordering fish and chips to be told they ran out of fish, after being advised every half hour that our order was on the way.....shocking

Went for dinner, absolutely appauling customer service from the chef who yelled and sweared at us after checking on our meal for the second time that we had been waiting 2 hours for! Both the chef and RSA marshall were yelling and swearing at us when we requested a refund because we did not receive our food. DO NOT GO HERE!

We had to wait 1.5 hours to be told there was no more fish available, worst was that the guy in the kitchen told us every half hour that our meals were on its way.......a quick apology from this manager will not do anymore ....be warned!!!
